As the Executive Board for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Foundation of Alaska:
We serve as the catalyst for social bridge-building and the conscience of noble Alaskans. We seek to remember, and to promote, the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Alaska.
Our Purpose: To partner with Alaskan communities, corporations, colleges, and agencies, in heralding the message of equality, unity, and brotherhood, all while working to reduce hunger and human suffering in our state.
Our Mission: To build bridges of friendship, to speak out against injustice, and to work to expand the reality of the Beloved Community, in the hearts of Alaskans.
Our Vision: An Alaska that models the Beloved Community of Dr. King at all levels of society.
Since our founding in 1986, our rich tradition of outreach has spearheaded the establishment of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Living Memorial (9th Avenue), the naming of the first Alaskan street after Martin Luther King, Jr., and other community initiatives, such as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Technical School.
Moving forward, despite the trade winds of change within our state and nation, we endeavor to lead the way in building greater understanding, unity, and social change that strengthens the moral fabric of our state, and that presents Alaska as a model for the nation.
